Own a piece of fashion history with this exceptional and highly collectible Elsa Peretti snake belt/necklace. This rare, early production piece dates back to the early 1970s, a pivotal time when Peretti was designing jewelry to accessorize the runway collections of her dear friend, the legendary American designer Halston, before her exclusive contract with Tiffany & Co. in 1974.

Design & Inspiration
This sophisticated and highly complex design consists of over 120 individual, graduated bean-shaped links that create an incredibly fluid, serpentine form, allowing it to move effortlessly with the wearer. The striking design was inspired by a real rattlesnake tail—a token of good luck gifted to Peretti by a friend from Texas, which she carried as a talisman for years. The snake's jaw ingeniously opens to allow the tail to thread through, making it a versatile lariat-style necklace or an adjustable belt.

Provenance & Collectibility
Jewelry from Peretti's pre-Tiffany era, often associated with Halston's minimalist aesthetic, is exceptionally rare and highly sought after by discerning collectors. This specific piece was recently acquired directly from a close personal friend and collector of Elsa Peretti, adding to its unique provenance.

Currently, Tiffany offers this design only as a necklace in a length of approximately 20 inches (almost half the length of this 36.5-inch vintage piece) and retails for approximately USD $25,000 - USD $30,000 depending on the country of purchase.

The partially visible "X.C" maker's mark corresponds to the workshop of the Famous Spanish sculptor Xavier Corberó, where Elsa Peretti produced many of her early designs. The pieces were made in Esplugues, Spain, during the 1970s, before or around the time she became exclusively associated with Tiffany & Co. in 1974. Elsa Peretti (1940–2021) and Catalan sculptor Xavier Corberó (1935–2017) were close friends, artistic collaborators, and former lovers who deeply influenced each other's work. Corberó provided the studio space for developing Peretti's early jewelry designs, including the iconic Bone Cuff, and they collaborated on furniture, such as bronze chairs and tables.

Condition Report
Presented in very good vintage condition, consistent with its age. All links and the buckle mechanism are in great shape. There are some minor nicks, light scratches, and natural wear visible upon close inspection, which do not detract from its overall beauty or structural integrity. The Makers Mark is partially faded.
